Return to Love

Who do you love? Hopefully you answer that question with a list that goes on and on. It may take a minute to remember all the loves of your life, which can include parents, siblings, animals, new and old friends, romantic relationships and even houses you have lived in or places you feel strongly connected to, and hopefully some rocks, trees and flowers!!!

Those you love do not need to be present, nor do you need to “like” them anymore. Relationships happen, evolve, and sometimes move on after various hardships, abuses, misunderstandings, and dramas. Yet love does not dissolve when feelings change. Love evolves to reflect new feelings that may be a wiser, sometimes damaged or more skeptical love. This is because love, at its base, is a deep feeling and those you no longer “like” often still elicit strong feelings — and frankly you must still care, or they would no longer be taking up emotional space in your mind and heart.

Some say every feeling is either love or hate. The problem with replacing love with hate is hate eats away at your own heart and makes you weaker. To love your enemies creates a fierce strength within: it creates resilience and self-love. You do not ever have to like your enemies or allow them to continue abusing or taking advantage of you. Instead let them go and allow your heart the peace and freedom of love.

I see February as a perfect time to reflect on all that you love! Time to forgive yourself and let go of your trespassers in order to free your heart to open again to a stream of pure glorious love. Hey, I understand it can feel impossible with all the pain and abuse you have accumulated throughout your life. But like with all journeys, it starts with a single step.
